How to make Websites more Accessible

Dive Into Accessibility – 30 days to a more accessible web site, is an ebook by Mark Pilgrim. What’s great about this book is that it’s accessible on the net without downloading too! So what does that make it – an ebook or a website? I guess both.

The book answers the following two questions :

1) “Why should I make my web site more accessible?”

2) “How can I make my web site more accessible?”

Mark Pilgrim answers the first question with 5 fictitious characters who have a combination of physical, mental, and technological disabilities which make it more difficult to use the Internet. To answer the second question he presents 25 tips that you can immediately apply to your own web site to make it more accessible.

The book has 30 chapters + Introduction and Conclusion. To be honest I came across the eBook about 20 minutes back through Amazon’s Web Site Development & Design tips. It would take me some time to read it.

Apart from reading it on the website you can also download it in the HTML or PDF format.

Dive Into Accessibility

Dive into Accessibility is also available in Norwegian, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish and Portuguese. Work on theĀ  Spanish translation is going on. You can get links to various translations on the eBook on this page.

Translations of this book are permitted as long as they are published under the same free license as the original. You are encouraged to publish your translation on your own site. Cool!

So dive in and make your website more accessible.
